Wildebeest Migration, Maasai Mara, Kenya: 7 days
Be right in the middle and witness the great wildebeest migration as it moves through the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Stay for 6 nights in one of the most established camps in the Maasai Mara. You are situated within the reserve’s boundaries close to the action in one of the most exciting game viewing areas in Africa! Wildebeest are famous for their annual long-distance migration, seemingly timed to coincide with the annual pattern of rainfall and grass growth. The timing of their migrations in both the rainy and dry seasons can vary considerably from year to year. At the end of the rainy season in May or June, wildebeest migrate to dry-season areas in response to a lack of drinking water. When the rainy season begins months later again, the animals quickly move back to their wet-season ranges.
Day 1, Nairobi - Maasai Mara:
On arrival in Nairobi you are transferred in a private car to Nairobi Wilson airport in time for the scheduled flight to Maasai Mara. In Maasai Mara National Reserve you meet your driver and guide to be transferred to Governors Camp where you stay for 6 nights in a standard tent with all meals and two game drives per day included.
Get up very early and take an optional hot air balloon safari that will take you up and above the plains. After landing enjoy a bush breakfast before you start your day of game driving (please ask for the price of the optional balloon safari).
Day 2 - 6, Maasai Mara:
Enjoy your days game driving in the Maasai Mara National Reserve and witness the wildebeests river crossings and the herds flooding across the plains. Wildebeest can live more than 40 years, though their average lifespan is around 20 years. The wildebeest has a broad muzzle shaped like a lawnmower, which helps eating short grass. They inhabit the plains and open woodlands of Africa, especially the Serengeti National Park and the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Day 7, Maasai Mara - Nairobi:
Spend the day game driving, in the afternoon you reach the airstrip in time for the scheduled flight to Nairobi. In the evening you are transferred to Nairobi International airport (JKIA).
